Mhhh, I served this delicacy Thursday on a Ladies Night, which I hosted. I doubled the recipe, though ;) Freakishly easy, few ingredients and you can always switch the toppings. Be a little brave and try out curry-mango sauce instead of a tomato one or go for a (very German) asparagus-hollandaise creation. Take heart! :) Here’s the recipe:



2.5 cups flour (I use spelt flour)

1 pack / 7gr dried ground yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon pepper

1/2 cup lukewarm water

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup tomato sauce

1 pack of sliced cheese

2 tablespoons oregano (and maybe some dried ground garlic?)

Toppings – if you like – can be sliced sasauge, ham, mushrooms, spinach… no limits!


Mix the flour with yeast, salt and pepper. Add olive oil and water and knead it using the kneading hooks on your processor / mixer until you get a smooth dough. I myself feel that the dough is of a better quality if you knead it with your hands, but it’s up to you. The dough shouldn’t be sticky. Now let it raise in a warm place, covered with a kitchen towel, until it has risen considerably (about 30-45 Minutes). If you’ve got the time let it rise two times for 15-20 Minutes and knead thoroughly it in between.

Roll the dough out into a rectangel on a floured work surface. Spread the tomato sauce and cover it generously with spices. Lay out the sliced cheese but leave out appr. an inch on the top and bottom, so that you can get an easy start for rolling up and also the toppings might work themselves up while you roll up the dough, so you need a little space on top. Now start with the toppings; be creative but don’t put too much on your pizza, for you still need to roll it up.

Now start rolling it from the bottom to the top as tightly as you can without ripping the dough so that in the end you’ve got a long roll. Cut it in slices and place them on a rack covered with baking parchment.It’s up to you how thick you want to cut the slices; is it supposed to be just a fingerfood snack or do you want to have something bigger for your lunch box? Anyway, try to make it 3/4 – 2 inches. Now bake it at 435°F (top- and bottom heat) for about 10-12 minutes. I always say it’s done when you smell it, but you might want to set a timer anyway :D
